What are the risks of orthodontic treatment?

Please refer to Australian Society of Orthodontists’ (ASO) public advice channel, Orthodontics Australia.

What kind of Payment Options do you offer?

We can offer an interest free payment plan: an initial deposit is payable at the start of treatment with the balance of the contract divided into monthly instalments. There is no interest or administrative charge for this. For your convenience, we are also happy to set up an automatic monthly deduction from your credit card. Again, we do not charge interest or an administrative fee for this service.

Do I need a referral to see an orthodontist?

No

What kind of Discounts do you offer?

We can provide a reduction for those who wish to pay-in-full at the start of treatment. We also offer a reduced fee to any additional family member (siblings or parents) who commences treatment with us.

Is an orthodontist a specialist?

Yes. A specialist orthodontist has a Masters degree in Orthodontics and years of experience in this one field of dentistry.

What type of credit cards do you accept?

For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

No diners club card accepted.

Can you please also note that we do not charge any surcharges when paying with credit card.

How much do braces cost?

This is dependent on the proposed treatment plan. An individualised treatment plan is designed by the specialist orthodontist after the initial consultation.

What does the fee cover?

The fee will cover the proposed treatment plan.

At what age should my child see an orthodontist?

Age 7-8 is the best time for your child to have an initial assessment with one of our specialist orthodontists. The reason for early assessment is that some conditions can be taken care of early far more simply than later. Other conditions are best left until all of the adult teeth have erupted. The need for any orthodontic treatment will be determined by our specialist orthodontist and discussed with you.

Do I have to pay the whole fee at once?

No. The fee is generally spread over the time of treatment. e.g. Instalments can be paid monthly or quarterly.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment involving braces usually takes 18 to 24 months. Treatment time varies depending on the type and severity of the malocclusion. Patient cooperation also plays a role and the fee for treatment reflects time and complexity of treatment.

How old is too old for orthodontics?

There is no age limit.

What do the braces look like?

Current braces are quite slimline and can even be clear.

Do braces hurt?

Not really. There is some discomfort with each adjustment, but this rarely requires even mild painkillers and only lasts 1-2 days at the most.

Will my teeth remain straight?

Retainers are crucial for keeping teeth straight. They are worn full time briefly after the braces are removed and then less and less often until they are worn only about 1 or 2 nights per week over ensuing years

Do I need health insurance?

Health funds pay some rebate on orthodontic treatment depending on your level of cover and the length of time you have been insured.

Do I still need regular check-ups with my dentist?

Yes! It is very important that your teeth are regularly cleaned and checked for decay.
